Appliance Recycling - Pull the Plug Program

last modified: April 23, 2018 at 11:38:22 AM

Get Cash for Old Working Appliances

The Pull the Plug program offers ECI REC member-consumers the opportunity to get up to $105 back in cash depending on the appliance(s) being recycled*. The program is available to ECI REC members through a partnership with CLEAResult out of Marion, Iowa. Download ECI REC's Appliance Recycling brochure.

Members can take advantage of these incentives and receive payment on a maximum of three eligible appliances per address, per year. The types of operating appliances that qualify are:

  • Refrigerators (full size), $35 each
  • Freezers, $25 each
  • Window air conditioners, $25 each

Collection Process - Two Options

Pull the Plug Hotline

This toll free number, 855-838-7817, will connect you directly to a CLEAResult rep to schedule your appliance pickup. No incentive form is needed.

  • You will need to name East-Central Iowa REC as your electric cooperative.
  • You will need to provide your 911 and/or electric service address.
  • You may also be asked to verify your ECI REC account number, so be sure to have this available.

Electronic Submission

Completing the Pull the Plug online form will provide CLEAResult the information that verifies you are an ECI REC member-consumer. You will then be placed on a call-back list and a CLEAResult rep will call you to schedule your appliance pickup; you may receive a call with a caller ID 855-838-7817.

Payment

The CLEAResults driver will complete the required data collection and have your rebate check in hand during your pickup. If you are not home, the driver will leave your check in an accessible location near where the appliance was stored (such as a door or a shelf in the garage) but not the mailbox. If there is not a safe location to leave behind your check, it will be mailed within one week.

To see what you could be saving by replacing an old refrigerator with a new model, go to www.energystar.gov and enter your refrigerator's information into the Refrigerator Retirement Savings Calculator.
